There are several schools of thought on how much ammo is enough, but the honest answer is always MORE! Let’s be real… Is there actually such a thing as too much ammo? Yeah, we don’t think so either. Whether you are defending your homestead against the advancing zombie hoard or just hitting the range, a solid stockpile of ammo is a must.
When we look at our ammo reserves, we keep these couple rules in mind. First and foremost, we always want a minimum of five-hundred high quality rounds / shells on hand that we do not touch for emergency purposes. Second, we always keep our range stash completely separate from our emergency reserves. We do this so we never have to guess our level of preparedness for any emergency.
Make sure you properly store your stockpile. Ammo cans with rubber seals are best. Don’t store ammo in an area that is too humid or has wild temperature fluctuations and keep the cases out of direct sunlight. Basically, treat your ammo like you would a vintage nudie mag and you’ll be just fine!
Now, we are not saying to stop the stockpile at five-hundred rounds. Ammo is getting more and more expensive and will definitely get harder to find. Legislation is constantly attacking the second amendment, so get while the getting is good! Take pride in your resources. It is always better to have and not need, than need and not have…
