If you look around your local gun store you will likely see a relatively new comer starting to pop up, the 5.7mm. This is not to say that the round is all that new or even very revolutionary, but gun manufacturers are taking notice and many are beginning to slap their offering on the table.
What can we say about this round? It is small, fast and expensive. A flat shooter with, according to the box, around 2K FPS rocketing out of a handgun. We tested the FN FiveSeven out at Freedom Range and here is what we concluded.
At $1500 and just over a buck a trigger pull, the FN FiveSeven seems to serve absolutely no practical purpose. We can say that it has very little to no recoil, so it is manageable for just about anyone. But, this is essentially the case with a .22 mag for a quarter the price.
So, can this gun and this round do anything so spectacular that it makes it a must have? We haven’t yet discovered this superpower. The ergonomics aren’t great, the mags are expensive, and the ammo is becoming more available, but still isn’t plentiful - at least by us. All in all, a nice wall hanger to impress your gun buddies, but is not pew pew money well spent.
